Our Barre classes were developed by two former dancers to develop muscles in a lengthened position to form a long lean dancer’s body.   Our classes are a mix of Ballet, Pilates, Resistance training, and Yoga. We use a full selection of accessories including BOSU’s, Swiss balls, therabands, loops, body rollers, magic circles, and small weights. We never repeat the same class twice so that the muscles are always stimulated and the work outs are more effective.

The reason that we are able to bring such diverse, interesting, and safe classes to our students is because of our vast background in fitness and ballet. Most barre franchises offer one weekend of training to their teachers who teach repetitive cookie cutter classes with very little variation in the routines.   Take a look at our very capable teachers.

Kim Wilchek

Kim moved to El Paso in 2010 and began teaching at the Mind Body Studio in 2012. She has a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Ohio State University in Dance Performance and is also fully certified in Stott Pilates (500 hour training). Kim really enjoys teaching the Barre Workout class because it blends all of her background experience in ballet, pilates, fitness training and yoga.

Bridget Smith

Bridget is an El Paso native and danced with Ballet El Paso under the direction of Ingeborg Heuser and Ballet of the Americas. After college, she received teacher training with Dance Educators of America in New York and is fully certified (500 hour) with Core Pilates. She is also a yoga teacher (teacher trained with CorePower Yoga) and as a former gym owner has a master level Fitness Trainer certification. She has post rehabilitation certification and has been teaching in the fitness and dance industry for over 26 years.

We offer a variety of yoga classes including basic Hatha, and Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow.  We also draw from elements of Anasura and Jivamutka traditions.

The Vinyasa style of yoga is characterized by a focus on vinyasa, or a dynamic connecting posture that creates a flow between the more static traditional postures.  The vinyasa “flow” is a varient of Surya namaskara, the Sun Salutation.

The standard Vinyasa consists of the flow from chaturanga, or plan, to chatarunga dandasana, or low plank, to urdhva mukha svanasana (Upward facing dog), to adho mukha svanasana, or Downward facing dog.  The purpose of vinyasa is to create heat in the body, which leads to purification of the body through increased circulation and sweating.  It also improves flexibility as well as tendon and hard tissue strength, allowing the student to practice advanced asanas with reduced risk of injury.

Our Hot yoga classes consist of both hatha style classes which consist of a set series of poses held for 30-45 seconds, to our Heated Vinyasa classes which are a rigorous combination of poses in a heated room.  We strongly suggest students take a series of 6 non-heated Vinyasa classes before attempting the heated classes.

Pilates Mat

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. The movements focused on balance, concentration, control, and breath. In Pilates, every movement originates from the core, The exercises promote uniform

development of the body.  This allows weaker muscles to develop instead of the body relying on the stronger muscles to do the work. Pilates is performed on spring loaded equipment or on the floor in small groups.  Pilates focuses on what Joseph Pilates called “The Powerhouse”, specifically the deep abdominals, gluteals, and back, working from the inside out.
