Yoga

We offer a variety of yoga classes including basic Hatha, and Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow.  We also draw from elements of Anasura and Jivamutka traditions.

The Vinyasa style of yoga is characterized by a focus on vinyasa, or a dynamic connecting posture that creates a flow between the more static traditional postures.  The vinyasa “flow” is a varient of Surya namaskara, the Sun Salutation.

The standard Vinyasa consists of the flow from chaturanga, or plan, to chatarunga dandasana, or low plank, to urdhva mukha svanasana (Upward facing dog), to adho mukha svanasana, or Downward facing dog.  The purpose of vinyasa is to create heat in the body, which leads to purification of the body through increased circulation and sweating.  It also improves flexibility as well as tendon and hard tissue strength, allowing the student to practice advanced asanas with reduced risk of injury.

Our Hot yoga classes consist of both hatha style classes which consist of a set series of poses held for 30-45 seconds, to our Heated Vinyasa classes which are a rigorous combination of poses in a heated room.  We strongly suggest students take a series of 6 non-heated Vinyasa classes before attempting the heated classes.
